Eric Staal on future with Hurricanes: 'I want to be where I am'

With the vessel sinking in Carolina, the skipper isn't looking to jump ship.

Carolina Hurricanes captain Eric Staal is uninterested in leaving the franchise he has captained for the last five years in wake of trade whispers, his aging contract, and the team's utterly fruitless start.

"For me, as a player, I want to be where I am…I believe in this team and this organization," Staal told Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. "I want to see it turn around and believe it will. We’re not throwing in the towel after seven games."

Staal would further note that he believes Ron Francis will be a "very good" general manager, and that he and his brother, Jordan, have not discussed the prospects of leaving Carolina.
