STL 3, CHI 2: Blues hang on for a bit of revenge against Blackhawks

Jasen Vinlove / USA Today

Jaden Schwartz, Ryan Reaves and Dmitrij Jaskin all scored for the St. Louis Blues, who took a step towards avenging last season's first-round playoff loss to the Chicago Blackhawks with a narrow victory on Saturday.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Reaves' goal - his first of the season - snapped a 1-1 tie late in the second period, but it was only determined a goal upon video review, which revealed the puck had completely crossed the goal line.
  • The Blackhawks lost Dan Carcillo to what could be a serious knee injury after a concerning collision with Blues forward T.J. Oshie in the third period. Carcillo has a history of knee issues and could not put much weight on his right leg as he left the ice.
  • The Blackhawks suffered their second consecutive regulation loss after beginning the season 4-0-1.
  • The Blues won despite going 0-for-3 on the power play, marking their first win of the season without converting with the man advantage.
  • Jaskin scored in his season debut after recording two points in 18 games last year.
  • The Blackhawks outshot the Blues 10-4 in the third period, but goaltender Brian Elliott held them to one goal over the final 20 minutes.
