VIDEO: Flames' Monahan fools Hurricanes' Ward on doorstep to score

Sergei Belski / USA Today

Sean Monahan displayed some of the skill that made him a top pick in the 2013 draft for his second goal during the Calgary Flames' 5-0 rout of the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

Stationed on the edge of the crease early in the third period, Monahan collected a bouncing centering pass and avoided a poke-check from Hurricanes netminder Cam Ward before sliding the puck in on his backhand.

Monahan entered the contest with no goals on 20 shots to start his sophomore season, so the 20-year-old can breathe a sigh of relief with that monkey off his back.
