Hurricanes place Eric Staal on injured reserve

The Carolina Hurricanes announced Wednesday afternoon they placed captain Eric Staal on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 11.
In a corresponding move, the team called up forward Brody Sutter from the AHL's Charlotte Checkers.
Staal left the Hurricanes game against the New York Islanders on Oct. 11 with an upper-body injury and has not yet returned to practice.
