The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned defenseman Derrick Pouliot to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the club announced Tuesday.

The 20-year-old continues to recover from offseason shoulder surgery and will likely get some game action in the minors before potentially making the jump to the NHL.

Pouliot recorded 70 points (17 goals, 53 assists) in 58 games for the Portland Winterhawks last season. He was named the Canadian Hockey League's defenseman of the year.
