3 things you need to know

Frederik Andersen refuses to let go of Ducks' crease

John Gibson is set to board a flight back to Anaheim, but his chances of featuring in the Ducks' crease any time soon may be just as good as they were when he was in Norfolk.

Frederik Andersen made history in shutting out the Blues for his fifth win of the young season Sunday, becoming just the second goaltender in league history to win 25 of his first 30 decisions.

His record is outstanding, but making his young career even more impressive is the fact that his 2.14 goals against average and .927 save percentage aren't skewed by a whack of shutouts.

Sunday's win over the Blues was the first time he blanked the opposition in those 30 games - a feather in the cap he was relieved to finally obtain.

"I knew I didn't have (a shutout)," Andersen said. "That's something you remember, obviously. It's like the players when they get their first goal, they'll remember that forever."

Saturday night, milestone night

Sidney Crosby and Joe Thornton, two of the league's generational talents, reached milestones in victory Saturday night.

Crosby, in a 3-1 win over the Islanders, recorded the 500th assist of his career on Patric Hornqvist's empty-net goal. He is the 6th-fastest player to reach the milestone.

Meanwhile Thornton, who recorded three points in a win over the Devils, reached 1,200 for his career, tying Dino Ciccarelli for 45th all-time.

Flames cap 4-win road trip with drubbing of Jets

Schedule-makers were unkind to the Flames to start the season - but who's laughing now? Following their 4-1 silencing of the Jets on Sunday, the Flames claimed their eighth point to cap off a six-game road trip.

With wins over the Oilers, Predators, Blackhawks and Jets, the Flames, who were supposed to vie for the services of Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, return home with a tie for the fourth-most points in the Western Conference.

By no means are they the most talented, but boy, they are game.

Highlight Reel

P.K. Subban's show-stopper against the Avalanche

P.K Subban. Check. Shoddy defense and goaltending. Check. The best atmosphere in hockey. Check, check, check.

Subban's game-winner Saturday over the Avalanche had all the makings of a perfect hockey highlight.

Johnny Gaudreau scores his first of the season

The young gun's first of the season was so creative, so dexterous, it was easy to forget about the fact he actually scored his first career goal last April.

Rangers score twice in 4 seconds

Scoring twice in a game is tough (ask the Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche), but twice in four seconds, well, that's only made possible when Alex Stalock plays the puck.

The Rangers matched a franchise record (this was done before?) by scoring goals four seconds apart Sunday against the Sharks.

Say What?

It's not just discarded jerseys, it's the entire sky falling on the Maple Leafs.

Following a pair of losses to the Red Wings on the weekend, Joffrey Lupul went on the offensive in the locker room, backhandedly calling out fans for the apathetic atmosphere shown in their home barn.

Top Fantasy Lines

F Jaden Schwartz - Blues

  • Schwartz had a career night for the Blues, notching his first career hat trick to go along with an assist in a 6-1 thrashing of the Coyotes.

F Tyler Seguin - Stars

  • Seguin collected four assists (three of which were primary) in Dallas's loss to the Flyers. Slow out of the gate, Seguin now has eight points in his last three games.

F Mason Raymond - Flames

  • Raymond continued his surprisingly torrid pace Sunday, scoring his fifth goal of the season and adding two assists as the Flames capped off their six-game road trip with a fourth win.

F Steven Stamkos - Lightning

  • After scoring twice in the first, Stamkos added an assist to move within two points of Sidney Crosby for the league lead.

D Sami Vatanen - Ducks

  • The young Ducks defenseman scored his first two goals of the season, notching power-play markers in both the first and second period of Sunday's win over the Blues.

G Henrik Lundqvist - Rangers

  • Lundqvist made 33 saves and survived six power-play opportunities for the first shutout of his season and the 51st of his career in a win over the Sharks.

Injury Ward

  • Victor Hedman came into Saturday's contest leading the Lightning in points and total ice time, but left with a hand injury expected to keep him out of the lineup until Oct. 28 at the earliest.
  • Paul Stastny left Saturday's win over the Coyotes with his left arm in a sling after suffering an apparent shoulder injury.
  • Thomas Vanek left the bench momentarily in Minnesota's loss to the Kings, but did return. He admitted his thumb was throbbing after being hit by a Ryan Suter shot.
  • Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller appeared to injure his right shoulder in a fight with Sabres forward Nicolas Deslauriers. The Bruins are calling it an upper-body injury.
