Rangers' Dan Boyle admits that he's still rooting for the Sharks

Dan Boyle's humility has overridden his ego.

The New York Rangers defenseman admitted that he can't help but root for the San Jose Sharks despite being involved in a rather bitter divorce with the organization last summer.

"My ego wants them to miss me and what I brought to the table for six years, but my heart wants them to do well and succeed," Boyle told David Pollak of San Jose Mercury News. "There's too many friends, too many guys, and coaches I was with for a long time."

With time, Boyle has gained both perspective and understanding of why his tenure with the Sharks had to come to an end.

"The one thing I couldn't change was my age and they wanted to go younger. They had a prospect in (Mirco) Mueller that they probably thought was going to make the team. That's one thing I can't do - I can't get any younger."

Boyle won't have his allegiances tested on the ice Sunday in New York; he is currently on the shelf with a broken hand.
