Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Islanders have been defeated.

After starting the season a perfect 4-0-0, the Pittsburgh Penguins solved the Islanders with a 3-1 victory.

While the game was reminiscent of the Penguins and Islanders playoff series two years ago, the pace never died down until the final buzzer sounded. With the win the Penguins improved to 3-1-0 on the season.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Patric Hornqvist continued to impress, tallying 12 shots Saturday and collecting three points. He now has eight points through four games.

  • Marc-Andre Fleury was on point early and made 34 saves, allowing just one goal to keep the Islanders away from making franchise history with five straight wins.

  • Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk recorded six shots on goal, while forward Kyle Okposo had five of his own. Neither player recorded a point Saturday.

  • Evgeni Malkin recorded a goal and an assist, while Sidney Crosby recorded his 500th career assist. With the assist, Crosby became the sixth-fastest player in NHL history to reach 500. He finished his night with two points.
