Report: Ilya Bryzgalov's agent gauged Avalanche's interest in his client

This isn't the first rodeo for veteran unrestricted free agent goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, nor for his agent Ritch Winter.

Bryzgalov, who remains without an NHL job, was unsigned at this time last season too, but he ultimately caught on with the Edmonton Oilers. After a mid-season trade to the Minnesota Wild, Bryzgalov finished the campaign off by starting in critical playoff games.

Obviously, Winter and Bryzgalov were hoping that this season might follow a similar script, and identified the Colorado Avalanche - who are down to third-string goaltender Calvin Pickard and fourth-string goalie Sami Aittokallio, following injuries to Semyon Varlamov and Reto Berra - as a potential destination for his client.

According to a report from Sportsnet's Damien Cox, Winter recently reached out to the Avalanche on Bryzgalov's behalf to gauge their interest in his client. Though the Avalanche have seen their goaltending depth ravaged by injuries over the past week, they nonetheless passed on Bryzgalov's services.

So it's back to the drawing board yet again for Bryzgalov and Winter. Perhaps if they're lucky, the Oilers might decide that they need more stability in net once again in a few weeks.
