Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard will not suit up for Saturday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Howard has been placed on 48-hour goaltender injured reserve with a sore groin, and will be eligible to play on Oct. 21, general manager Ken Holland stated Saturday.

Petr Mrazek was called up from the AHL to serve as backup to Jonas Gustavsson for Saturday's game.

Howard stopped 23 of 24 shots in a 4-1 over Toronto on Friday, and is considered day-to-day for the time being.
