The Winnipeg Jets learned Saturday that forward Evander Kane will be out of the lineup for at least two weeks with a lower-body injury, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.

Kane will be re-evaluated at that time, giving the club a clearer timeline as to when he'll be able to return to the ice.

"To be quite honest with you, it’s better news than I was expecting. I really was not hopeful (on Friday)," admitted head coach Paul Maurice.

“It’s tough, but again, everybody is dealing with this at some point of their season," he added. "So better news, but he is going to be out of our lineup for the near future.”

Kane was injured during the team's season opener after an unfortunate collision with teammate Mark Scheifele.

The former 30-goal scorer has yet to play a full 82-game season since entering the league in 2009. In 63 games last season, Kane scored 19 goals and added 22 assists with 250 shots on goal.
