Oilers release Vladimir Tkachev from training camp tryout

One day after their attempt to sign Vladimir Tkachev to an entry-level contract was rebuffed by the NHL, the Edmonton Oilers released the 18-year-old from his amateur tryout.

Tkachev will return to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Moncton Wildcats with a view towards the 2015 NHL Draft, where he will be eligible to be selected by all 30 teams.

While questions abound in terms of his size (listed at 141 pounds at Oilers' training camp), Tkachev will be in a good spot in Moncton, playing alongside St. Louis Blues prospect Ivan Barbashev, who has already scored three goals in two games.

Tkachev's performance in NHL preseason play, coupled with the Oilers' attempt to sign him to a contract, will certainly be remembered come draft day next June.
