Schaller was one of seven players assigned to the AHL on Tuesday.

Analysis:

Though head coach Ted Nolan spoke glowingly of Schaller, the undrafted forward out of Providence College will begin the season in the AHL. A defensive player, there simply was no room for Schaller, who needs more pro experience. The type of role he plays will be filled by a veteran player. Rochester's Most Improved Player from last year should improve his rookie season output (11 goals in 72 games) and he will certainly be one of the Sabres' first call-ups should the need arise.
