Maple Leafs' Clarkson won't require surgery on broken orbital bone

Since arriving in his hometown of Toronto as a highly sought-after free agent in the summer of 2013, Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson has struggled enormously. 

Clarkson's inability to score or meaningfully contribute in his first regular season as a Maple Leafs forward is well documented, but the preseason has been particularly harsh for the bruising checking forward. Last fall he received an automatic ten-game suspension for leaving the bench to defend Phil Kessel. This year he broke his orbital bone in a fight with Cody McCormick.

Though Clarkson's most recent injury sounds debilitating, the club announced Monday that he won't require surgery. 

He's expected to rejoin his teammates later this week, and he also doesn't regret taking part in a fight in a meaningless game. After all, Clarkson's willingness to drop the gloves is part of what made him a wealthy man:
