Bruins release Ville Leino from training camp tryout

Bob DeChiara / USA Today

The Boston Bruins' Ville Leino experiment has ended.

The team released Leino from his training camp tryout on Monday, leaving the 30-year-old with a very slim chance of playing in the NHL this season.

The most obvious option for Leino appears to be a return to Europe, where he made his name as a scoring star in the Finnish SM-Liiga. Leino recorded 77 points in 55 games with Jokerit in 2007-08 before joining the Detroit Red Wings.

No matter what he decides to do, Leino will continue to receive $1.22 million annually from the Buffalo Sabres until the 2019-20 NHL season as part of his buyout, so money shouldn't be much of an issue.
