Gregory Campbell questionable for regular season opener with core injury

The Boston Bruins may open the regular season without the services of dependable fourth-line center and "heart and soul"-type Gregory Campbell, according to Bruins coach Claude Julien:

Campbell is best known for continuing to kill penalties in a playoff game after clearly fracturing his fibula while blocking a shot, so if he's missing time, you know his injury is seriously hobbling him.

A lynchpin on Boston's oft-celebrated "merlot line," there had been talk of Campbell moving to wing in order to make room for one of Boston's talented young players, like Ryan Spooner or Alexander Khokhlachev. Neither rookie has been enormously impressive in preseason, although if Campbell remains on the shelf, there a significant opportunity for one, or both, players to break camp with the Bruins.
