Report: Islanders sign Michael Dal Colle to 3-year, entry-level contract

The New York Islanders have signed forward Michael Dal Colle to a three-year, entry-level contract, according to a report from TSN's Bob Mckenzie.

Selected with the fifth overall pick at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, the 18-year-old Dal Colle is a skilled play-making winger with NHL-ready size who managed 95 points in 67 OHL games last season.

Though terms of Dal Colle's contract have yet to be announced, as a top-five pick his three-year deal is sure to include a $925,000 base salary and the maximum $277,500 signing bonus. His ultimate cap-hit will be determined in part by the bonus structure of his contract, which is currently unknown and unreported.

Because of his age and the terms of the NHL/CHL transfer agreement, Dal Colle will be unable to play in the AHL this upcoming season. If he breaks camp with the Islanders, he can appear in as many as nine games without "burning" the first year off of his new entry-level contract.

If Dal Colle is sent back to the CHL before playing in 10 NHL contests this Fall, his three-year entry-level contract can "slide" and begin next season (although he'll still receive his signing bonus).
