The Canucks have placed Markstrom on waivers, News 1130 reports.

Analysis:

Markstrom, who was traded to the Canucks alongside Shawn Matthias in exchange for Roberto Luongo at the 2014 trade deadline, dropped on the Canucks' depth chart following the team's offseason signing of veteran goalie Ryan Miller. Markstrom was the clear man out, with promising youngster Eddie Lack primed to take over Canucks' starting goaltending duties in the future. Markstrom, the 24-year-old Swedish prospect, went 1-2-0 in four appearances with the Canucks in 2013-14, recording a .868 save percentage and 3.00 GAA. It's likely a team takes a gamble and picks him up off waivers.
