Blues' Steen held out of preseason game after getting 'banged up' in team scrimmage

St. Louis Blues center Alexander Steen will be held out of Thursday's preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets after suffering an undisclosed injury during a team scrimmage, according to head coach Ken Hitchcock.

"He got banged up in the scrimmage yesterday so we just (pulled) him out," Hitchcock told Lou Korac of NHL.com. "We'll get back to him next week once we finish the evaluation, but we're not taking any chances on the veteran guys."

The move appears to be cautionary, but Hitchcock and the Blues aren't taking any chances with Steen.

"When a guy gets pulled out, you're always concerned, but right now, it's day to day," Hitchcock continued. "I don't think we're too worried about it. I think we're at the point right now with our veteran guys where anybody that's got even an ailment, we're just going to pull them out."

Steen got off to a roaring start last season, but was sidelined with a concussion. He finished the year with 33 goals and 29 assists in 68 games, and the Blues obviously want to make sure he's 100 percent for opening night.
