Jordan Staal: Surgery On Tap, Out 3-4 Months

Staal will undergo surgery to repair a fractured fibula in his right leg and is expected to miss three-to-four months.

Analysis:

The Hurricanes were bracing for the worst after Staal broke his leg in Tuesday's exhibition game, and it appears they've received just that with the news that surgery will be necessary for the center. Staal will undergo the procedure on Friday, which will likely keep him out until around the All-Star break. Despite Staal's dropoff in production last season with the Hurricanes, his absence still represents a huge hit to the team's depth down the middle.
