Report: CSKA Moscow GM did not offer Ryan Johansen a contract

The KHL, or at least CSKA Moscow, is reportedly not trying to lure Columbus Blue Jackets restricted free agent Ryan Johansen to Europe.

On Saturday it was reported the team was going to make an offer to Johansen (1 year, $5 million) which turned out to be a false report. In Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts, he spoke to CSKA Moscow general manager Sergei Fedorov, who confirmed he did not want to "interfere."

"Whenever I’m thinking of signing someone, I call two NHL GMs," Fedorov explained. "I ask them if an NHL team is going to sign that player or not; we want to see if he really wants to play in the KHL."

Johansen, who has received a slew of offers from KHL teams, appears to want to stay in the NHL according to his agent. Fedorov respects that decision.

"I like to be a responsible manager that doesn't interfere too much with NHL business," he said.
