Ryan Suter fought back tears as he answered questions about the death of his father Bob Suter after the first day of Minnesota Wild training camp.

“My dad was a hard-working guy,” Ryan told reporters. “He wore his blue jeans and work boots to work everyday. He didn’t expect anything from anyone. Everything he got, he worked for. He wasn’t ashamed to be in his work boots and be at the rink from sun up to sun down on weekends.”

Ryan was overwhelmed by the support he and his family received. He said it was "pretty special" to see over 4,000 people show up to pay their respects at the wake and hear stories from people about the positive impact his father had on them.

The last 10 days have understandably been emotional for Ryan, who finds solace on the ice.

“That’s the cool thing about hockey, you get to get out on the ice and you don’t really have to think about anything, you can just go out and be in your own little world,” Ryan said. “We have to move on and have a really good year for him.”
