Blue Jackets' Dubinsky: Rangers 'held my equipment hostage' during contract negotiations

Brandon Dubinsky knows how ugly things can get with agent Kurt Overhardt. 

Sharing the same agent as his Columbus Blue Jackets teammate Ryan Johansen, currently holding out for a new deal, Dubinsky has experienced the backlash that can result from sputtering contract negotiations.

And in his case, the seizure of property.

"Glen Sather actually held my equipment hostage from me," Dubinsky said of his eight-day holdout with the New York Rangers in 2009, according to the Columbus Dispatch. "I'm not sure I should tell you guys that. But I was using rental skates. I was just skating laps, just burning my legs out every day to try to keep my legs in shape."

Dubinsky eventually signed a two-year, $3.7-million bridge contract and reported to camp, and has since cashed in with the Blue Jackets, signing a $35.1-million extension this summer.

There's method to Overhardt's madness, sure, but he's not the one skating laps in rentals.
