Senators' Methot on contract talks: 'It does no good having me comment'

Ottawa Senators defenseman Marc Methot briefly addressed the ongoing contract extension negotiations with the club, stating it's in his best interest to keep quiet and focus on training camp.

"I'd like to think we're getting closer but other than that I can't really elaborate any more," Mehtot said, as per the Ottawa Sun. "It does no good to have me comment on the way things are going."

Methot continued:

It's one of those situations where it's not always going to be easy. I've just got to hope that (agent) Larry Kelly does his job and he sorts out all that stuff. Right now, I'm just focused on camp, getting into shape and getting my legs back and help the team win some games.

The comments come after a couple days of a somewhat contentious back and forths between the two sides, with conflicting reports in regards to the status of the negotiation process.

For his part, Methot reiterated he's singularly focused on getting in shape for the new season.

"I come in here and I get dressed with all the guys and I do my job," he said. "(It being public) is not something I have a whole lot of control over. The way things happen is purely business. It's a negotiation. I'm just here to play hockey."
