Blackhawks unlikely to trade Leddy to slide under salary cap

Someone has to go, but according to Nick Leddy's agent, it won't be Leddy.

The Chicago Blackhawks are $2.2 million over the salary cap and a trade is the most likely scenario.

Scott Powers of ESPN spoke to Leddy's agent Neil Sheehy, who is confident the young defenseman will be part of the team for the long haul.

"Stan Bowman said he's not looking to trade Nick," Sheehy said. "I think the big thing is he's the youngest defenseman on the team at 23 years of age, and he has four years of NHL experience. He's part of the future of the team."

Leddy's $2.7-million salary would take care of the cap problem, but as Sheehy said, general manager Stan Bowman isn't looking to part ways with the defenseman.
