Howard said that he's feeling his healthiest in "two or three years" prior to training camp, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.

Analysis:

Howard has endured a variety of injuries the last two seasons, with the most significant being a sprained knee that cost him much of this past December. The health issues appeared to take their toll on his productivity in 2013-14, as Howard regressed to a 2.66 GAA and .910 save percentage over his 51 appearances. After backup Jonas Gustavsson took a step forward during his absence last season, Howard will enter the upcoming campaign with a little less job security than he's been accustomed to, but he could reclaim some control of the job with a string of excellent starts out of the gate.
