PHOTO: Stars' Campbell pays tribute to Marcus Luttrell with Lone Survivor goalie mask

This may be the best mask of the summer so far.

Designed and painted by the prolific David Gunnarsson of Dave Art, Dallas Stars prospect Jack Campbell's new mask is a tribute to Marcus Luttrell, the main character of the popular summer flick Lone Survivor. Luttrell was played by Mark Wahlberg in the film, which dramatizes an actual Navy SEAL mission Luttrell went on in Afghanistan.

The results are pretty awesome:

Campbell "wanted to make a design that is a tribute to the American hero Marcus Luttrell," explained Gunnarsson on his Facebook page. "Marcus Luttrell is a former United States Navy SEAL, who received the Navy Cross and Purple Heart for his actions in June 2005 facing Taliban fighters during Operation Red Wings. Marcus is born and raised in Texas.

"The design is created with Marcus and his friends on the sides, and the stripes in Dallas colors on the sides together with the many small Dallas Stars [logos] on the top are inspired by the US flag," continued Gunnarsson. "And the whole design is created in a vintage and well-worn dirty style with insane detail work."

Campbell, who sported a JFK-themed lid last season, clearly enjoys paying tribute to his American heritage and Texas history with his masks. Campbell will likely be the starter for the Texas Stars this season, and this particular mask should play well to their home fans.
