Agent: Bryzgalov 'would very much like to return to the Wild'

After going 7-1-3 down the stretch with the Minnesota Wild last season and helping the team reach the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, veteran goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov is desirous of keeping his NHL career going in the 'Land of 10,000 Lakes.'

Bryzgalov is even prepared to accept a hometown discount, at least that's what his agent, Rich Winters, told Michael Russo of the Star-Tribune:

Ilya would very much like to return to the Wild and further the success the team had down the stretch last year. It was one of the most satisfying experiences he has had in his career. Ilya loved his teammates in Minnesota, loved the city and loved and appreciated the support he received from the coaching staff and Wild fans. He would love to be a part of helping this team to enjoy the success they had together last year.

He has instructed me to do all I can to facilitate a return to the Twin Cities even if it requires him to compromise somewhat to accommodate the budget issues facing the team if that becomes a possibility.

Financials aside, the bigger issue may be the club's depth chart, with Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding "both doing really well" and looking to take back the reins in net. Restricted free agent Darcy Kuemper also remains unsigned but, when back in the fold, would presumably battle for a spot as the team's backup.

While there may be no room at the Wild Inn for the likes of Bryzgalov, he above all knows "it's only game."

In 32 games split between the Wild and Edmonton Oilers last season, the 34-year-old posted a record of 12-9-8 with a .909 save percentage and four shutouts.
