Sabres shuffle front office; promote ex-Canadiens coach Randy Cunneyworth

Midway through his first offseason as the club's top executive, Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray has remade the front office in his own image.

On the heels of a series of maneuvers to reshape the Sabres' scouting department earlier this month, Murray has now changed the look of the club's hockey operations

On Wednesday, the club announced the promotion of notoriously unilingual ex-Montreal Canadiens head coach Randy Cunneyworth who spent the 2013-14 season working with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. Cunneyworth is now the club's player development coach.

In addition to promoting Cunneyworth, the club announced the re-assignment of assistant general manager Kevin Devine – a 17-year veteran of the Sabres' front office and the former right-hand man of Murray's predecessor Darcy Regier. Devine will remain with the club as the director of player personnel.

Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald summarizes the other, lower profile changes to Buffalo's management team:

Dennis Miller, the old player development coach, is still with the organization, a team spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Jerry Forton, an assistant coach last season, has been named a college scout. [...]

The Sabres have also named Jason Long coordinator of player development, Corey Smith video coach and Jim Kovachik a pro scout. Seamus Kotyk and Victor Nybladh have been named amateur scouts.

All five had roles in the organization last season.

Buffalo's scouting department – which now includes Kotyk and Nybladh – should consider buying a vowel.
