The New Jersey Devils picked up one of the most sought-after free agents on the market in forward Mike Cammalleri. There was one person on the Devils that intrigued Cammalleri, that person being Jaromir Jagr.

"He's one of the greatest legends of our game of all-time," Cammalleri told The Hockey News. "He's an iconic sports figure."

It wasn't just Jagr who lead Cammalleri to choose the Devils, it was also their systems.

"What attracted me to the Devils was the success they’ve had, the template, the way they do things. I have a belief in how things are done that leads to successes."

General manager Lou Lamoriello said he's been following Cammalleri's career since he was at the University of Michigan.

"He played with an edge and had results. He’s very diligent and he competes," Lamoriello said. "When you see that in a player, it naturally sticks out.

"When we were looking at the potential free agencies and the type of player we needed, we felt we needed a scorer. Mike stood right out."

Cammalleri has already been to New Jersey to find a house for his family, and is hoping he'll find himself on a line with Jagr come October.

"To play on the same team as him will be a unique and special experience."
