Report: Venue for 2015 Winter Classic in Washington still undetermined

Geoff Burke / USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Capitals will host the 2015 Winter Classic. They will host the Chicago Blackhawks. That news broke way back in September of 2013.

Where the teams will play that game is still up in the air.

There could be a resolution to that matter soon though, as the Washington Post is reporting that NHL officials visited Nationals Park (Nationals), RFK Stadium (D.C. United), and FedEx Field (Redskins) recently, and are in on-going discussions regarding determining a venue for the game.

The Redskins host the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 28, which rules out FedEx Field as a possible host for the game.

Discussions are currently ongoing between the Capitals and Nationals to play the game in the home of the Washington baseball team, according to Events DC CEO Greg O'Dell.

I have not been told definitively by anybody that they have ceased discussions.

...

For us, first and foremost, we want it in Washington, D.C. We’ll be supportive of any of the venues, and we’ll make RFK an option if necessary.

The venue for the 2014 Winter Classic in Ann Arbor, Michigan was announced in April 2013.
