Rangers, Brassard agree to 5-year, $25-million contract

John Geliebter / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Rangers avoided arbitration with Derick Brassard, signing the forward to a five-year contract.

Here's how the deal breaks down annually:

Brassard, 26, was a key depth component in the Rangers' run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2013-14, notching 18 goals and 45 points in 81 games, while adding another six goals and 12 points in 23 playoff games.

A first-round pick (6th overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2006, Brassard joined the Rangers at the 2013 trade deadline as part of the deal that landed Marian Gaborik in Ohio's capital.
