Devils hoping Reid Boucher plays like Zach Parise: '1st line player with 4th line work ethic'

Prior to the team's development camp, New Jersey Devils head coach Pete DeBoer is hoping to see shades of former captain Zach Parise from 20-year-old forward Reid Boucher.

"Whether he’s playing on a first line or fourth line, he has to bring that workmanlike mentality," DeBoer told The Star-Ledger. "I told [Boucher] that was the beauty of Zach Parise. He was a first line player with a fourth line work ethic. I think Reid could take some notes from that."

Boucher, drafted 99th overall in 2011, appeared in 23 games for the Devils in 2013-14, scoring two goals and adding seven assists; his production increased at the AHL level to the tune of 22 goals and 16 assists in 56 games. As somewhat of a "veteran" at rookie camp, DeBoer is looking to Boucher to set the example for the young ones.

“You’re just looking for him to come in and be in good shape,” DeBoer said. “He’s a veteran here, so you’re looking for leadership. He’s played some NHL games. We’re looking for guys who have had that experience to spread it around a little bit with the group."

Boucher notched 62 goals in 68 games during his final junior season in 2012-13, and clearly the scoring prowess is there; the Devils also require some grit and heart from their players, something Boucher has to prove he can bring to the table in order to make the best impression.
