Report: Goalie masks must meet safety standards next season

Robert Hanashiro / USA TODAY Sports

The NHL is reportedly set on disrupting the sacred relationship shared between a goaltender and his mask.

Beginning next season, the protection will have to "meet a minimum safety standard," per TVA's Renaud Levoie.

Masks come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so consistency - depending on the degree - will undoubtedly irk the men situated behind them.

It remains unknown whether Tim Thomas will have to ditch the Cooper, Jonathan Quick will be required to keep his nose tucked inside the helmet, or whether a mere dangler is imposed, but uniformity is expected.
