After managing to stay out of the penalty box for his first 71 contests this season, O'Reilly finally took a minor penalty Saturday in a 3-2 victory over the Sharks.

Analysis:

In a game that saw Semyon Varlamov earn his league-leading 37th win in a 47-save performance and superstar Matt Duchene leave with a potentially serious knee injury, the small story was O'Reilly's first two PIM of the year. He was assessed -- in rather bizarre fashion -- an extremely rare "broken stick" minor at 8:49 of the third after he played the puck with his foot while hanging onto his stick, which had broken moments before. Although he didn't register any points in the win, O'Reilly owners won't mind the fact that he finally was sent to the sin bin. Despite the transgression (if you can call it that), the gentlemanly winger is still a front-runner for the Lady Byng trophy, and his 58 points are one of the biggest reasons behind the Avs sitting fifth overall in the NHL.
