Devils' Cory Schneider: Preparing to start Saturday

Schneider assumed the starter's net Saturday ahead of the evening's home contest against the Hurricanes, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports.

Analysis:

Backup tender Keith Kinkaid was the last one to represent the Devils in goal -- he took a road loss to the Maple Leafs on Thursday -- so Schneider will try for a better outcome facing a Carolina team ranked 19th in the league at 2.61 goals per contest. Schneider has gone 5-8-3 with underwhelming peripherals (2.68 GAA, .915 save percentage) over 17 games in 2017. There's no disputing that Schneider is a talented backstop, but this has been a forgettable campaign for the 31-year-old Massachusetts native.
