Avalanche's Jeremy Smith: Between pipes Thursday

Smith will defend the cage against the Oilers on Thursday, Terry Frei of The Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

Smith will get his second start in the Avs' last three games, which is likely the result of the organization trying to figure out what it has in the 27-year-old. Colorado's season is all but over, and with Calvin Pickard continuing to struggle, it make sense that team brass would want to give Smith a look, considering that he'll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.
