Weber on Nashville return: I was 'afraid I might get emotional'

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

It was a moving night in the Music City for Shea Weber.

The longtime Nashville Predators blue-liner returned to Tennessee on Tuesday as part of the Montreal Canadiens, his first game back since an offseason deal sent him to Montreal.

His presence certainly didn't go unnoticed, with the Predators honoring their former captain with a video tribute, as local supporters gave a standing ovation of the defenseman who spent the last 11 seasons in Nashville.

"I didn't want to look at the video, to be honest with you," Weber told reporters following the Canadiens' 2-1 overtime win. "I was a little bit afraid I might get emotional."

The hometown fans also got their own moment of reflection, as Weber flexed his offensive prowess that he came to be known for in Nashville, scoring the Canadiens' first goal of the game, a wrist shot tally that defied Nashville netminder Pekka Rinne.

"Obviously, it meant a lot and it was really special," Weber added. "It was special to be back in this building where I spent a lot of years, and even better to pick up the win."
