Avalanche's Tyson Barrie: Has forgettable Friday night

Barrie had a rough outing Friday, skating to a minus-2 rating and coming up empty on three shot attempts in a 3-1 home loss to the Panthers.

Analysis:

Barrie did pick up a high-sticking penalty in the first period, but we're guessing those two minutes in the box weren't enough to offset an otherwise uninspiring effort from the 25-year-old defenseman. You might recall that Barrie's camp went to salary arbitration with the Avs this summer, but ultimately agreed to a four-year deal netting $5.5 million annually. That minus-16 rating from last season probably did him no favors in leveraging a new deal, and Barrie hasn't done much better as he's at a minus-12 mark through 28 games this season. To be fair, though, he does have 11 helpers -- five on the man advantage -- and 13 points in all. He remains a valuable commodity in fantasy, even though it may not be as obvious as it was when he delivered 53 points in the 2014-15 campaign.
