Canadiens' Sven Andrighetto: Regular gig begins Thursday

Andrighetto was in the active lineup Thursday, registering a hit and a blocked shot in 8:27 of ice time in the 5-2 win over the Islanders.

Analysis:

Andrighetto, who was leading AHL St. John's in scoring with 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists), was called up after Montreal suffered injuries to forwards David Desharnais and Alex Galchenyuk, both of whom will miss the next 6-to-8 weeks due to knee injuries. He'll get plenty of ice time over the next couple of months and, while he skated on the fourth line Thursday, brings enough offensive juice to play in a top-nine or top-six role. The Habs got by Thursday when Phillip Danault, Torrey Mitchell and Artturi Lehkonen produced goals, but this is very much a scoring-challenged bunch that could use someone of Andrighetto's skillset.
