Oilers' Cam Talbot: Designated as Saturday's home starter

Talbot will patrol the crease as Saturday night's home starter against the Ducks.

Analysis:

Talbot has been all over the place in terms of performance this season. He's allowed three or less goals in 17 games, but there's been some real stinkers among the six other outings. It's all added up to a 2.58 GAA on the season for the Ontario native in his fourth year and second go-around with Edmonton. Anaheim has been about as average as it gets in key categories like goals per game (2.58) and penalty kill percentage (83.3), though it is running the league's eighth-best power play at 22.1 percent. The one thing to be weary of is that John Gibson, the scheduled opposing netminder for the upcoming contest, figures to be a tough counterpart to Talbot, as he's undefeated in four career tries against the Oil.
