Sabres' Josh Gorges: Undergoing further testing

Gorges took a shot off the foot in Thursday's matchup with the Rangers and will undergo additional tests to determine the severity, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.

Analysis:

With fellow blueliners Dmitry Kulikov (back) and Zach Bogosian (knee) already sidelined, the loss of Gorges would be a significant setback for the Sabres' blue line. While the 32-year-old's contributions don't necessarily show up on the scoresheet -- one assist in 23 games -- his defensive capabilities, including his shorthanded minutes, will be hard to replace. If Gorges is unable to give it a go, Buffalo will need to make a call-up from AHL Rochester.
