Capitals' Paul Carey: Out with illness following recall

Carey has come down with an illness that will prevent him from playing in Thursday night's match against the Islanders, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.

Analysis:

Carey was recalled from the AHL on Wednesday, and coach Barry Trotz gave serious consideration to starting him Thursday until this illness came up. The 28-year-old winger has only appeared in one game this season, logging 12:08 of ice time in a Nov. 20 duel with the Blue Jackets. With T.J. Oshie ruled out until next week with a shoulder injury, Carey might get another chance to play Saturday against host Tampa Bay.
