Anybody out there still sour over Team North America not making it to the final of the World Cup of Hockey?

Well, Tuesday may have helped ease any lingering disappointment as the game's young stars - many of whom comprised the 23-and-under squad at this September's World Cup - were out making magic with their NHL clubs.

With 12 games on the slate it might have been difficult to catch what all the youngsters were up to. This is their league now and they were out proving it. So here is what the NHL's elite youth were up to on a busy schedule:

  • In Edmonton, fans were treated to the second - and unfortunately final - installment of the Auston Matthews/Connor McDavid saga. The two did not disappoint, creating endless chances and each scoring a highlight reel goal. Matthews got things started, finishing off a great feed from William Nylander, with McDavid - despite his team losing the contest - eventually stealing the show.

  • Of course, anytime you mention Matthews, you have to talk about Patrik Laine, and we will. The No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft snapped a six-game goalless streak, netting an absolute laser against the New Jersey Devils for the game-winning tally.
  • Back in Ottawa, Jack Eichel made his presence felt in his first game back from injury with a goal and an assist, providing a huge sigh of relief for the Buffalo Sabres faithful.

  • A little further South, the New York Rangers continued to roll thanks in part to a late game-winning tally from former Hobey Baker Award-winner Jimmy Vesey.
  • And not to be outshone by the crop ahead, Max Domi netted his fourth of the season against the San Jose Sharks, giving him 15 points on the season.

The game is clearly in good hands, just one question: Feeling old yet?
