Kings' Jeff Zatkoff: Could be available as backup Saturday

Zatkoff (groin) has been upgraded to day-to-day with Kings coach Darryl Sutter not ruling out the possibility of the goalie being available as a backup to Peter Budaj against the Flames on Saturday, the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Analysis:

Zatkoff has been in recovery mode since sustaining the groin injury in an Oct. 22 morning skate, but the man himself sounds pleased with his progress. "I've been able to do more each and every day, just kind of building," Zatkoff said Friday. "Today, felt really good as another good step for me, just seeing normal shots, just reading the play and kind of trusting my body." Budaj has picked up five wins in eight games since Zatkoff went down with the injury, and it's not clear at this point who would be the interim No. 1 goalie with starter Jonathan Quick considered month-to-month with a groin ailment of his own.
