Bruins' Zane McIntyre: Spot start doesn't go well

McIntyre was beaten five times on 31 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Rangers.

Analysis:

This was a fairly predictable outcome, as McIntyre wasn't even the starter at AHL Providence, but he was asked to face the first-place Rangers due to the injuries (Tuukka Rask, Anton Khudobin) and ineffectiveness (Malcolm Subban) in front of him on the depth chart. Things went well for one period -- the B's scored two goals and McIntyre held New York off the board -- but things unraveled from there, with the 24-year-old allowing three goals in the second frame and another two in the third. Rask (undisclosed) could return for the Bruins' next game, Saturday against Detroit, while Khudobin (upper body) is out for a few weeks; that creates an opportunity for either McIntyre or Subban to step into backup duties for a period of time. However, neither young goalie's done much to prove himself.
