Sabres' Anders Nilsson: Great in debut despite loss

Nilsson played well in his Sabres debut Tuesday, allowing three goals on 41 shots in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Flyers.

Analysis:

Making 38 saves and earning a point in the standings is great and all, but doesn't excuse Nilsson and the Sabres from blowing a three-goal lead in the third period. Granted, all three tallies came on the power play, which isn't fair to pin solely on Nilsson, but it was still disappointing for those who used him as a spot starter. He isn't likely to see a ton of time this season behind Robin Lehner, but with the Sabres' No. 1 netminder under the weather and four games in the next seven days, Nilsson could get a couple more looks in the short term.
