Hurricanes' Jeff Skinner: Held out of practice

Skinner missed practice Monday, instead working out on his own with an undisclosed injury, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

Analysis:

It is unclear when Skinner was injured as he logged 16:35 of ice time in Saturday's contest as well as snagging an assist. His status for Tuesday's matchup with the Red Wings is up in the air, with coach Bill Peters playing things close to the chest. Through the first five games of the year, the 24-year-old has notched six points, three of which were scored on the man advantage. If he is unable to suit up against Detroit, Sebastian Aho could replace Skinner on the Canes' top line by switching to the left side.
