Flyers' Steve Mason: Gets first win of the season

Mason made 27 saves Saturday for his first win of the season in a 6-3 victory over the Hurricanes.

Analysis:

The Canes were the perfect antidote for the struggling Mason. He's now 1-3 and has only allowed two or fewer goals once this season. Mason has a long leash in Philly, but those fans get restless -- he'll need to get the stink out of his game soon. But scoring is up all over the NHL and Mason (and his owners) may need to settle for lower than expected stats. That won't be unique to Mason, but he's the classic average netminder whose numbers will take a hit because of the firepower in the league.
