Blackhawks' Trevor van Riemsdyk: Expected to miss approximately one month

Coach Joel Quenneville told reporters Saturday that van Riemsdyk will be out approximately one month with an upper-body injury.

Analysis:

Van Riemsdyk sustained the ailment in Friday's matchup with Columbus, and arrived at the United Center on Saturday sporting a sling on his arm, which was the first indication he was likely dealing with a long-term injury. The Blackhawks reportedly may have been looking to trade the 25-year-old blueliner to a defenseman-needy team, but if that's the case, that plan will obviously have to be put on hold while van Riemsdyk is on the shelf. Chicago will likely place the right-handed defender on injured reserve to open up a roster spot for the duration of his lengthy absence.
